What are the ideas behind Free For All and Usual Suspects competitions?

a "Free For All" does just what it says on the tin - anyone can play anything and everything, just enjoy yourself.

pros: open to have as much fun as possible with no pressures - freedom to express yourself
cons: no theme means you're at risk of voting based on other's tastes - straying from the norm is a gamble...

a "Usual Suspects" comp is more complex - the aim is to guess as many of the identities of the annonymous contestants by their mixes as possible whilst not getting yours id'd

pros: the fun of bluff, double bluff, trying new styles - or staying right within you regular style... freedom but with layers of craftyness...
cons: can require buying enough new music to make a whole set of a new genre - expensive if you use vinyl.

i fancy a usual suspects comp cos i've never taken part in one before (that i remember) and i hink i could do everything possible in a free-for-all and more...

I would actually suggest the Free For All before The Usual Suspects, for a reason that has been pointed out already actually. Some people may have to go buy stuff for that. Sure, some might have to for the Free For All, but I bet less would need to for that one. It just gives more time for peeps to buy what they want. Funds issues and all.

So yeah, I'm up for ominae going ahead and hosting...

I thought it was settled already, ffa then we do usual suspects. We can start FFA thread first week of June and Usual Suspects in July.

Nowhere was it stated that a definitive contest was determined. Ideas have been tossed around since the 420 ended. Since ominae's hosting, he can decide.
