My idea: We had a house competition 2 years ago which included various sub-genres of house, so why not a trance competition this time? Genres allowed could be trance (with its multiple descriptions), vocal trance, psy-trance, goa-trance, hard trance, classic trance, synchpop, tech-trance, eurodance and the trance that the Chillout Dreams channel plays.

I like the idea of the trance one a lot. That said, I'll have to practice a fair amount before deciding if I'll submit one due to the last trance one I made...

With the varieties involved though, there is high potential for quality and diversity for a comp with this as the theme.

my library is about 200GB and weighs 0.44 Pounds (20 grams)

How I wish I had my library as well. Most of my trance was gone in The Great Hard Drive Failure of 2006.

i don't know what i would do if i lost all my tracks
i do have another external HDD that i use for back up so i guess only a freak accident will destroy both at the same time

I'm fearing i may have lost 500gb worth of stuff, mostly music, 3 days ago

HD started acting weird and now it won't respond at all. Don't know for sure till i can check out the machine physically so there's still hope left...

Stupid thing is, i lost a 20gb HD 10 years ago or so. I learned my lesson and ever since i've had all my drives in raid 1 with 2 disks and my most important stuff on a disk which is actually backed-up on at least 9 different disks in 4 different locations on 3 continents. One of those locations is a data center in a former military underground bunker, built to withstand full scale nuclear and biochemical war, designed specifically to protect sensitive electronical equipment. And if the power goes out...well, it won't...there's plenty of fuel for the backup generators to keep the whole place up and running for over a decade. Ooooh!...and there's a subtropical swimmingpool! Seriously!

Anyway, this disk was in 2-disk raid 1, but the other disk failed not too long ago and i haven't gotten my lazy ass round to replacing it, so this one was on it's own now...

Norton Ghost does magic in situations like this, unless of course the drive is badly physically damaged, but I don't think it will be the case.

Data Recovery programs are good but sometimes it recovers your mp3s without the titles. Sometimes they just come up as "Recovered File" with numbers after them.

It's Norton, no thanks. I'd rather smash my harddrive with a sledgehammer than bringing anything Norton anywhere near my computer.

I've got plenty of software for this sort of stuff, but none of it is any use....after booting up the disk is there, but as soon as i try to do any read/write commands it freezes up my computer for a minute and then the disk just disappears and windows tells me i unplugged the disk without dismounting it lol. The first time system log started dropping ntfs errors, then various read and write errors for that disk, and then a couple hundred controller errors rapidly after eachother right up to the moment it disappeared alltogether. Now after booting it just drops a list of controller errors until it disappears again.

Oh well...not much i can do till i get home.

Trancefest is a fine idea, and I especially like Omi's idea about followup competitions featuring breakbeat and any other genre's we missed.

But I would also like to get DI Railway Relay rolling again. If you don't know or remember what it's about, please read the first page of this thread. I would like to do it properly too (as suggested by XYZ). Divide the footage into 30 minute segments and ask each participant to create a soundtrack for their part of the trip. The final versions will show combined visuals & audio. There will be no video editing required from the participants, I take that job upon myself. I believe we now have the correct resources to see this competition happen. I just need a show of hands of people who are still interested in this and would like to participate. Please reply with your ideas on this as well.
