hmmm...so let me see if i understand this correctly....guesses will be made as we go along and the DJ's will confirm/update their tracklist?...would that be through PM?
otherwise if track ID's are confirmed in the forums the rest of the listeners will not get a shot at guessing i for one, suck at ID'ing, can't even ID some of the tunes in my sets : but there's really great ID'ers out there and if guesses are posted/confirmed publicly the comp can be over very soon

![]() Though it sounds like a really interesting comp idea. I won't participate since I have like 4 mixes that I have all planned out but need to actually do the already, but I may join in on the listening ![]()

but do we really need 20 people sending pms that they IDed that one track everybody knows. If we do it collectively, we can get easy IDs out of the way in the beginning and focus on the hard ones together.
Maybe, if no IDs have been made in a particular set in 3 days DJ will give a clue. ![]()

but youd just post your guesses on the message board, it would be a lot easier, and its an open comp to listeners so no need to PM. |

posting the guesses on the forums is not an issue, neither is saying that the ID is not correct...what i was referring to is more about confirming the guess in the forum

Is this for sure going to happen, and if so when do we have to have a mix ready?

i think its a great idea!!!!
the winner is the DJ with the least ID'd tracks! it would be good to advertise small town artists and get thier name out there

i hope we get this going. I got support from a lot of you, but also hawk likes it and T4E.
we're talking about it currently in the 2010 comp idea thread. If you want to know mroe or hear updates on it, talk in there. The more people for it, the most likely this comp will be official soon. it probably can be the next comp. Maybe do it in april or something so people have enough time. and yeh JISH, this will be good to get out new artists but also some GEMS prob too. |

I was listening a couple of older tracks on my ipod and I thought to myself: I would not be able to ID if my life depended on it. Maybe we should add a rule (at least for the first time... while we feel things out) that all tracks used must be released on both vinyl/digital or be featured on an artist's cd/lp (not a single) . This would eliminate whitelabels, obscure digital only releases and indie artists who may have only made one or two tracks.
Of course we can just dive in head first into this competition without leveling the playing field and see what will come of it. It might not be that difficult, after all, there is an app for that!

cause i only have 1 CDJ, and not many of my vinyls are from 09/10. but i agree the track should be on both vinyl/digital or an Lp liek you said. by LP do you mean like someone releases a track on digital and it gets remixed by like 5 artists, does that count? Or do you mean a whole album? Cause it seems like many tracks get released with many remixers rather than 1 artists and many tracks. |

or is this supposed to be a comp with classics only? Quote:
so why should we take people's freedom away and pretty much tell them what to play? i couldn't care less if someone released one track in his/her life that was a hit, and than did nothing else there's plenty of those out there

That has nothing to do with what I said. I play digital as well.
And on the contrary to what you said, a lot of singles/EPs were and still are being released on vinyl/cd/digital. Certainly true for house & techno and I imagine any other electronic genre is not different, except noise maybe. Outside of electronic music preferred way of distribution is artist CDs/LPs (those are distributed digitally as well via Itunes and what not)... so I don't see how my proposal impedes a lot of people from participating. Maybe only XYZ Alas, I understand that in order to level the playing field we must go against the spirit of this competition, so I withdraw my proposal.

This competition needs to get underway a.s.a.p. since the 420 competition is usually held in April. Whatever you guys got planned, let's get it rolling.
