we could do the ID contest again, but maybe switch the rules up a bit to make it a bit easier. Last time me and someone else tied. I remember the other guy did lots of ol mid 90's tunes, while I used 1 hit wonder trance tunes.

If we do the comp again, I saw we have to use vocals for like 2/3 of the songs or something

we could also do the "unusual suspects" again, that comp was really fun.

I'd be up for a free for all as well. It's also worth keeping in mind that 420 really ain't far away, but we can fit a comp in before that if the interest is there.

The 'other guy' sounds like me - I think you were 'someone else'.

Would anyone be up for a mashup competition. It was a second a third competition we did on DI many years ago but we never revisited the idea.

For those that were not around back then, it's a FFA mix, you just need at least 1 original mashup. And by original I mean your own.

EDIT: If not, I can always host a normal FFA, we have enough time before April.

If I remember right, I believe it was the 3rd comp. Mashed Potatoes and Wavy Gravy comp that LR hosted. That was a fun comp.

Link to the original threads. I would like to update the rules though.
  1. An original (No prerecorded sets) mixed set
  2. From any school or medium (Computer, Vinyl, CD or Analog Tape)
  3. Any genre or school of Music, EDM or not.
  4. Mix length not to exceed 1 hour.
  5. Each DJ must include at least one mash up of 90 seconds or longer in your mix. This mashup MUST consist of two seperate tracks played over each other. No mash up remixes may be used to fill this criteria. Example: You may play 90 seconds of Moby vs. Eminem - Nobody Listens to Techno - White Label Remix if you want but it won't be counted as a mash up.
  6. Submissions to be in 192 kps or 320 kbps .mp3 format with a proper creative name.
  7. Provide a time stamp of your mashup, because we don't know every track by heart. (Mashup from 13:30 til 16:25 will do)
  8. Tracklist is required with your submission

Unrelated: I can't believe its been 6 years since we started doing DI comps.

i would but the part about "1 original mashup" kinda decides it for me unless playing two tracks at the same time counts as a mashup

Not sure if that was yes or a no.

This is not producers competition. Playing two tracks together in a manner that results in something coherent but different from the original tracks is technically a mashup, sooo...

Well good luck, I will let you know the details of this competition if we manage to settle on something. Any other input on what we should do? I'm up for hosting anything, but personally I like the mashup idea better.

i've ironically been thinking about songs that would be good as mash-ups. You can count me in if we do the comp.
