Possible Competition in the Future?

I know there's a competition going on now, but.....

Hopefully this isn't against the rules for talking about other streams, but I was just thinking about a future competition where it could be all live. I know of a place where we can rent a stream fairly cheap. I haven't done it so I'm not sure what all it takes to do it, but from what I've read it looks easy.

Everyone could 30 min mixes depending on how many people showed up. We could go into the DI chat and everyone around the world could do it. Only problem with that would be is the different time zones. Either way I was just thinking about it today. I would give up part of a Saturday to do all this and I'm sure others would as well.

Let me know what you all think as I'm sure someone here has more experience with this stuff than me.

Yeah I have thought of this idea awhile back. Not sure if it was on this forums though. It is extremely hard to get it done though. One time zones. Second, connectivity. Third software. Not all people use the same computer and not all streaming sites use the same software compatitble with everyone. And last troubleshooting. There are a ton of things that can mess up during streaming. I've listened to my fair share of webcam djs mixing and sound glitching out, video cutting out, connection issues. If you're willing to do it though I'd try to join up. I just don't want to have to set this up.

I've been playin' out for quite sometime now and I havn't really done a store gig yet. I have one booked for June 7th though as this big clothing store in my area is finished their big renovations. I can see playing in the store a good way to get your name out there, at least noticed, because mine is in a mall on a Saturday and there's thousands of people who walk by!

Work has been keeping me busy as of lately but once I get some time I'll mess around with it and see what problems we might run into. It's worth a shot and wouldn't have to be the biggest thing in the world but it would be fun.

Also by stream, I'm not talking about doing it on a webcam, which I guess would be an option as well, but just purely the music. Start small then go big.

I figure.... I'm gona DJ anyway....might as well get paid to do something I would normally do anyway....

The money is just compensation for carrying all the equipment over and standing for 5 hours straight. (thats how I look at it)

I've done a store gig before.... but it was acctually my friends gig and I kinda just helped him out.... you get a lot of people coming up to talk to you and stuff.... It's definetly fun

Heh, i spun in a supermarket for grocery-shopping soccer moms once...and it was awesome

Did a couple of sets in record and music (as in instruments/dj gear) stores too

The venue doesn't matter as long as you have fun

well if it's a store, what do you guys recommend he spin? I've never done that before, but I would think chill deep house would be what you might spin. I've actually never even been to a store where they had a DJ.

I think that this is an idea worth developing. I played a couple of times streaming and it was OK.

I am unfamiliar with streaming and what is involved on a technical level but if people are serious, I would bring my skills in networking to try to get this optimised.

I could use my test platform with gig links into the ISP backbone and a server if someone is willing to co-operate with me in the technical challenge.

MODS: This is NOT competition with DI. Rather a one-off technical exercise and a bit of fun. My subscripition stays regardless!
