Ripping is easy. There is a program written by a guy from Denmark? which was really good. So good, they tried to shut him down.
Not sure about compression. Generally compression is not necessary. So you might ask: Why are we using it then? To save space. Space was a huge problem in the past. However, those days are gone. So. If you do not want to compress, then do not compress. As far as putting the riped dvd on ipod and itunes. Do it the same way you do music. I have not used itunes in a year or so, but, if I remember right, there is import function someplace in itunes or you just point it to directory where you keep the stuff and itunes will know where to look for it, when you sync ipod, you will be able to move the stuff from hard drive to ipod, just like moving music files.

lol yeah a 16-year-old genius who cracked DVD copy protection algorithm a couple of days after it came out. yes his program will work. I have no idea what it's called, but it's been 'banned' whatever the hell that means. You can probably download it on lamewire or something.

Why the hell is ripping DVDs that banned but ripping CDs is ok? Heck you can even rent or buy movies on iTunes so what makes it so different backing up your DVDs? Plus I have Mac OS X and I think it is stupid to have a copyright when I also think the same way for CDs.

Since when is copying a disc's content to your computer automaticly associated with illegal activities? For all you know he wants to rip a disc of his friend's home video's even with that friend's permission.
There's nothing wrong with ripping a cd, it's the source of the disc and what you do with the ripper content afterwards that matter.

Most movie DVDs has copy protection, if you want to rip it to your hard disk, you must decrypt the
copyright protected dvd first. My friends recommend me to use "E.M. Free DVD Copy". I have tried it, I found the ripped video quality was excellent, and the software was very easiy to use, so I recommend it to veryone. "E.M. Free DVD Copy" can help you easily rip DVD to many popular formats, such as mp4, 3gp, flv,h264, Xvid, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, Mpeg TS, AVI, WMV. so you can watch dvd movies on portable players like iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune, etc. 1.Download E.M. Free DVD Copy 2.Insert DVD disc to DVD drive. then, Run E.M. Free DVD Copy, and select “Rip” mode, the ripper will running, If it has more than 2 DVD source, Please select a DVD that you want to rip. |
