Default Software that captures video from your screen
I remember having this software awhile ago, but I forget what the program is! I know I got it from download.com. Does anyone know a program that does this task? I need it for a video I'm making. Thanks

SnagIt! usually gets very good reviews, and I've used it a bunch. Flawless, easy to use. It's 40 bucks though, however a 30 day fully featured trial can be found here: http://www.techsmith.com/download/snagittrial.asp

I would probably start with Media Encoder since it has a nice wizard setup to guide you through. Once you figure out what you want and how you want it, then you can start thinking about what else you want to do.

All programs are free.
I agree that WME is drop dead easy to use, but quality leaves a lot to be desired. I use it for video demos I post to various tools sites, but if the video needs polish, WME isn't the way to go.

Fraps is best for videogames captured full-screen. For windows-based stuff, SnagIt works well enough.

Fraps is absolutely universally usable - number one choice for me imho
