Question Streaming to the Droid - Android 2.0 Phone

Ok, I just got back from the Verizon store. I was checking out the Droid... Motorolla's Google Android 2.0 platform phone. I popped open the browser and went to DI.FM. I tried all 3 streams, and nothing. I asked the data tech guys at the counter and they said there might or will eventually probably be a app that will work with DI.FM.

So anyone checked into this? Anyone gotten DI.FM working? I'm especially interested to see if I can get the premium subscriber channels to work. The phone is pretty damn sweet and right now the only thing holding me back is the fact I can't stream my favorite Internet radio station.

According to the specs of the Droid, it supports AACPlus streams. This is big!!! Currently it's next to impossible to stream AACplus encrypted streams on windows mobile.

i haven't tried this yet (as my droid is still in the mail) but this app supposedly does this:

oh, i can't enter urls because i'm new... google "droidlive" - that app does it.

also google "droidlive free lite" for the free "lite" version on androidfreeware dot net...

now as far as logging in for registered users, that would be a good question...

also, there's an app for android that's in development called 'StreamFurious' - if you google it, go to the 'feedback' forum and vote up the request for supporting authenticated streams like di.fm, you don't have to register!

Streaming on the droid is not working for me either. I am really bummed. Don't make me get an iPhone...

I will vote for that StreamFurious though!

StreamFurious, Free Edition, from the Droid Market has a built in di.fm trance channel that does work, but it does not play the PLS links form di.fm mobile automatically, trying to figure that one out.

Default AACPlus doesnīt matter.

It is about what mediaplayers the platform can play without apps and windows mobile can "amazingly" play windows mediaplayer files. Buy android or the others if you mainly read newspapers on internet, but if you are interesting in internet TV and radio Bill Gates products are the best.

Almost all cellphones support AACplus nowadays but they canīt play those files anyway.

Try the app *A Online Radio* available in the market. It has a wide selection of online streams and claims to be able to add channels manually with the link or from the browser.

"Online Radio app for Android.
plays: AAC/AACP shoutcast/icecast channels.
plays: MP3/M3U/PLS/AACP/AACP channels.
ADD channel: by search; by manually adding the link (LiveTab/add channel), from browser."

Post I as well have been trying to find an answer

I picked up the droid phone about a week ago, I was really excited by the idea of playing di.fm off my phone, I know an app will eventually be created to handle di.fm (wouldn't it be nice of DI to use some of the support they get from premium subscribers to design one for android os?) So far I've just been testing the limits of all the free audio applications, and none have met my aim, nor do any support an equalizer, so you audiophiles may want to take a step back from the android until they design the proper software, but because of the open development nature of android I shouldn't expect it to be that long before someone breaks the current coding standard of audio. Even opening a conversation between a programmer, and someone in Di.fm's company might kick things off in a good direction.

Edon, I took your advice, and tried AOR, I've sent a request that di.fm be added, all my effort to input the di.fm channels failed. they wouldn't load. My search continues.. (the waiting game sucks)

a lot of web radio stations have developed software for their sites, let's see where the answer comes from in the end.

We do have one planned, just like an iPhone app. But there are a lot of things planned before them

+1 to this request...I've been a premium user for at least 4 years and would love to get my premium streams on my Droid. 96k is ok, but 256k is much better =) DroidLive currently crashes when I try to access any of the streaming content on di.fm

Default Streamfurious

streamfurious pro does work on the motorola droid (android 2.0)! i did not try the free version.

what you do is login to di.fm from the browser, select which music you would like to listen to in *MP3* format and then copy the url by holding your finger/stylus down on the mp3 format tag

load streamfurious pro and then hit menu>add custom url>paste the url into the box

voila!

worked for me on wifi and on the 3g network without having to log back into di.fm

**update**

i was also able to get it to work with AAC streams on droidlive 2.0
it's a bit tricky to get your own custom urls added, however.

what i did was added a random radio station to my favorites, then went to my favorites and held my finger on the station i had previously added.
this brings up a menu so that you can edit title and edit url

should be obvious but... edit the url and paste the link to the music stream into that and voila! (edit the title too so you dont forget what you added)

not the most elegant or user friendly method but it's all that i could find for now.

I've been using StreamFurious Pro for a week now. I was having some problems keeping the stream going with AACPlus and MP3 streams. They just released the version 1.0.7 update for StreamFurious Pro. Which seems to have fixed the glitch with the MP3 streams both free and premium streams. I'm still getting glitchy performance trying to stream both the Free and Premium AACPlus streams. I've been in touch with them on their support forums and they are checking into it. So far so good!!

Excellent App, That's giving me just as good of performance I was getting on my PPC phone. Now when they iron out the glitches with he AACPlus, we'll be cooking with Gas!

Hey to add a url link on DroidLive do the following:

1. Open DroidLive
2. Select favorites
3. Long press bottom bar favorite button
4. add your URL!

Thats it!

DroidLive is currently in the process to support encrypted channels...

Enjoy!

Cool posted via MotoDroid

Streamfurious Lite wont let you add stations. I'd go pro but I want to know it worx.... I am very anxious to get this issue worked out. I have finally fulfilled a dream some 5 years in the making: I stream DI premium through my car stereo via laptop and Verizon MI-FI. But I'd waay prefer to cut out the laptop and just stream from my Droid.

I am using a HTC Hero (european version) with Android 1.5 (2.1 update announced but not yet released). Here is my experience with various apps:

DI MP3 Premium Stream:
- DroidLive: Working, but a bit buggy (If stream drops it doesn't come back automatic... other MP3 Streams do.)
- A Online Radio: Working
- Stream Live Radio: Not Working

DI AAC+ Premium Stream:
- DroidLive: Not working
- A Online Radio: Working
- Stream Live Radio: Not working

DI MP3 Non-Premium Stream:
- DroidLive: Working
- A Online Radio: Working
- Stream Live Radio: Working

DI AAC+ non-premium not tested yet.

PS: I entered the stream URLs manually (not using the browser).
