Default registering to use app

To answer someone's question, yes I (and others) fear that DI will sell or spam the data. Why else would they ask you to register?
If you are using the free version, why would you want to register? Why do you need to register?

Register gives DI info on you. Why do they need it, especially if you are using the free app?
1. track what you are doing
2. spam/email you
3. sell your info

What other reasons are there? Tracking registered users? Nope, they'd just tracking current users (you can stream free over a pc).

That's why people are very skeptical of it, and I think that DI will lose a lot of people this way.
And that's too bad because it is a good product. But...again, why do people need to register? And, if it is harmless, why would they just make a change and not saying anything about it.

All of it adds up to a bad move by DI.

I for one won't. Don't trust it. There's no good that can come from it.

Great response. Very educated and informing. Way to add to the discussion.

Some people need to actually think about things.

We're sorry to hear about your disappointment. DI strives to give our users the best experience possible and over the years have dedicated our time to just that, bringing good music to music fans. Yes, we are now requiring certain details of our users to help us better understand our user and deliver even better features for the future. Over the years we have found that our users like to listen to DI on the web and on their mobile devices and one of the added benefits to creating an account is that as a user you can sync your favorite channels across platforms. Additionally, Digitally Imported operates two other radio companies, SKY.fm and JAZZRADIO.com that your account now grants access to. One account, over 110+ music channels.

Also, once you have confirmed your account details we offer you 7 FREE days of Premium to try as a thank you for registering with us. Your support goes a long way and it's something we take very serious and appreciate greatly.

I can certainly understand your frustration but let me assure you that we keep the email address you give us protected and unsold - if you have a read of our Privacy Policy you will note that the only reason we will contact you is in relation to your account and we certainly don't share it with anybody. As for the 'tracking', we just want to know what people are listening to (or what people are turning off, should we get rid of that show?).

We're gearing up for some exciting new user features and additional platform support that will come soon in the future, including the re-launch of a new DI website which account holders can take full advantage of.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the reply Mike. I really do appreciate it.
I think that you should summarize this and make sure people know that. In my experience, people are more reasonable when you explain it to them.
I did read your privacy policy, but those things are never perfectly clear. They always seem to leave a little gray area. Also, most of your app users won't take the time to read it. Perhaps summarizing it as "we don't spam or sell your info" in big, bold letters woul be a good idea. My opinion though.

I'd bet a lot of app users don't use the "favorites" feature between the app and pc, which would make registering not worth it.

I had a couple of friends that recently turned me on to this app and they were upset about the registering process, like me.
They only use it a few times a week, so they don't think it is worth it nor do they trust the registering process because you guys haven't made it clear. For me, I use it a bit more and would like to continue to do so, but wanted to know why you are making us register.
It's a bit clearer to me, so I will likely do it. But I think you may want to do a better job of explaining it next time. Again that just my opinion.

Thanks for writing back.

AJ

I can't believe you now grant access to Jazzradio.com. I remember trying my login during the summer but it did not work. Now it works. I logged into the website and downloaded the iPhone app and it works now given me the ad free higher quality premium streams. I do listen to DI most of the time but I do enjoy jazz music so thanks.

What is the big deal of registering. Some people get over paranoid. I don't get any spam from DI. I only get a email when my subscription is about to run out and when it is renewed. It is not bad at all. It saves all of your favorites across the website and the apps. Now I gave my email to other apps like iHeartRadio which sucks and crashes and a few other and those idiots spam your inbox unless you unsubscribe. DI, SKY.fm and Jazzradio never spam me.

I agree. If it's that big of a deal, use a spam address. I've been registered with DI for years and never get any e-mails from them.

I used to get newsletters every so often - which I didn't mind - but it looks like they've stopped those.

Joined today to find out there is a new app.
Works good and looks good on my ipad1.
With a JB(yep I know I'm bad) and retinaPad it looks as good as a native.
In landscape mode as well.

Thanks for the app.
It makes my iPad even better.

First of all, it's great to have this app and I'm thankful that you provide it for free.

However, I really have to ask why this App crashes this often, even after more than half a dozen bug fix updates?

It seems like it really doesn't like intermittent connectivity. While in around 60% of all cases, it smoothly fades out and then fades back in again when coverage is back, in 40% of cases it will just crash to the home screen. That is bad.

As I said, I appreciate this app a lot, however, I would expect it at least to not crash after that many maintenance releases.

And btw, if that is of any motivation: I would easily pay $10 for it!

The app still shows out of date titles. Whenever a show is on and before it comes on it plays the DI without a condition promo it will go to the song title then after a few minutes will back out to the DI without a condition title again. It does it all the time during Anjunabeats Worldwide. I love the app but this problem has been going on since 1.0.

Unfortunately it's still nowhere close to how usable a well made native iPad app would be, we're still using the iPhone sized app, made for a small screen on a iPhone, not for a iPad.
I wonder what happened to the iPad app in development, there was talks about that months and months and months ago that they where working on one, what happened?

As was said previously the app detects when a call is incoming and stops the stream. Upon call termination, the app will restart the stream.
