Default iPods BANNED in NYC? (? added for HH)

Not yet anyway. Very interesting article—proposal to ban or fine individuals $100 for using a cellphone, blackberry, ipod .. etc .. while crossing the street.

Three have recently died due to using such gadgets. One who died, was even "yelled" or warned at before walking into a busy street while tuning into their gadget.

Interesting idea, and point, wonder if it will fly.

I can understand them! Hey it's NYC, with a huge traffic. So if they can prevent accidents, it's a good thing.

First of all your title is very intriguing but false... A cheap trick used by newspapers and marketers. Having said that... Kruger can suck it. You don't need your ears to cross the street. Even one eye is enough. The only time i use my ipod is when im walking somewhere...

On the other hand I would like to see police try to enforce this in Midtown Manhattan during rush hour....

You don't even need your eyes to cross the street. How do you think blind people do it? Not to mention deaf people...let's ban deaf people from leaving their homes, so they won't be in danger of not hearing a motorist screaming at them while performing an illegal traffic move.

But yeah, no matter what, a pedestrian in a crosswalk always has the right of way. So even if he was crossing when he wasn't supposed to, it's the driver's fault. Banning morons who don't know traffic rules from driving would be better.

I-Pods banned in NYC???

Yeah right!!! I would love to see that happen and see tons of pissed off NYers too. No one will follow that law just like how nobody does with the cellphone laws while driving. The only law that NYers follow is the no smoking indoor law. Pretty much all the rest of them get broken.

It would be interesting if this goes into effect, how much money the city of NY would generate from this little fine.

What's it like wandering through life with such little clue? If the light is green and I'm going 20MPH and some twit steps in front of my car just as I get to the intersection, it is not my fault, it's the pedestrian's. They have to follow the rules of the road as well.

If New York State really wanted to generate money, they should build casinos, make gambling legal and follow Nevada's lead. That's why Nevada is rich and New York is poor. That's what I think anyway, I could be wrong but I doubt it.

NY's a huge ass city and attracts newcomers constantly and is bound to have it's areas, DG ... but NY definitely has the money ... all the money's in NYC ... Uptown and now even MidTown's where it's all at, starting @ Wall Street!!! The suits have taken over!!! Watch the atrists stream into that refuge they call "Soho" ...

Does this just mean you can't use your iPod while crossing the street but you can still use it in your own house? If not, I'm glad I don't live there.

That may be but the rest of New York state is in a state of emergency pretty much. If they build casinos throughout NY state, it would be insane. The whole state could gain from that and not just NYC. Interestingly enough, NYC is only a drop in the bucket compared to the size of NY state as whole. It's no where near the size of Texas though.

For sure, DG ... somehow I was seeing the "C" in your NY and forgot about the state!!! Can always count on an Albany boy to set the record straight, though ... thnx, dude!!! Yeah, I agree ... there are parts of the state that could do with some additional flow of funds being channeled into them by the G-Men ... and casinos would DEFINITELY create that market. A lot of the local gambling market zips down to Atlantic City for a much closer weekend binge on the slots & tables!!!

Correct ..

There have been deaths related to the fact that people aren't paying attention while crossing the street (i.e. talking on their cellphone, listening to music via their iPod, or chatting on their blackBerry)

Basically, I don't think this bill has to go into action, people just have to watch where the hell their walking.

Correct .. you cross walk, or blatently dis-obey a street sign, you get hit, I don't think the court is going to be on your side.

So then if it's banned in NYC, shouldn't it be banned everywhere else?
