The 2004 Democratic presidential candidate said if the students make the most of their educations, "you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
-John Kerry If he is joking I don't get it. Maybe it was taken out of context, maybe he is that arrogant. Yes, I realize he was a navy officer, but it's possible that he despised his time in service Do you think that only the uneducated and overpatriotic serve in the military, not just in the USA but anywhere? How about the poeople in countries where they are required to serve for 2 years? I don't think so but I am biased. Semper Fi,

Mark Foley is a very sad example of the American Republican. Doesn't everyone feel better now? |

Expecting politicians to be good examples is like expecting to find a $20 bill in every parking lot you pull into. You see a few occasionally if you're lucky.

all my friends that went to the army went there to get their shit together. 2 of them were drug addicts who just recently signed their 2nd contract. Both were in Iraq.
I think to some extent Karry's right. If you're not doing anything with your life, might as well join the forces instead of being useless. Doesn't mean that these people are dumb. Maybe uncertain about what's going on in their life. Maybe just trying to get money for school. There are too many reasons.

I think most of us know some who fit that stereotype, but thats the problem - it is a stereotype. lots of folk go for other reasons too. Kerry was not wrong, but his comments were careless and leave the wrong impression. Bush however should be doing some appologising too IMO.
