For this you need the concept of time, which is a man made concept. That theory just doesn't sound right.

check out this book if you can:
The elegant Universe - Brian Greene. for you string theory buffs, it's awesome, for you string theory n00bs, it's awesome, infact, it's an awesome read.. ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elegant_Universe there you go. It's so interesting, kinda explains a lot. about time in relation to how it moves, how it moves... universe is a weird word... I don't think there is just one, but I can't imagine another, call me closed minded, but THIS PLACE IS HUGE! so it's hard to imagine....ofcourse im totally not dissing the fact that, sure there could be others. theres a lot to think about.... Also, I've heard theories of that JM where everytime you make a decision it breaks off and makes a new outcome... parallel universe. that's a weird concept... it's hard to imagine.

I don't get the two of the same item not being allowed to occupy the same space, so they can't be near each other. This is a common theme used in time travel stories. I just don't see it being an issue. Unless you literally show up in your own place, but in another multiverse, so two bodies are fighting for that same space... I could see that being an issue. But to meet up with a duplicate of yourself and to reach out and just poke in the stomach... nah, I don't see it being an issue at all. It doesn't seem any different than two people poking each other if they are different people. I feel I have hopped to another multiverse though, at times.

Plus, the theory doesn't need theo concept of time at all, it's just easiser for us to theorize it that way...

seconds, minutes, hours, how is it not a concept?
the definition of a concept states : something conceived in the mind. and time definitely was conceived in the mind.

Seconds minutes hours are our measurements of time. They aren't time, but how we describe. Time couldn't care less what you call it. It's still there.
Oh, and bug, the problem with meeting another instance of yourself via time travel is that, if 20yo XyzA from 2009 says hi to 15yo XyzB in 2004, then XyzB must have a 5 year lasting memory of meeting my future self. But since XyzA comes from XyzB, then XyzA must also have that memory. Right now, I'm XyzA and I certainly don't remember meeting myself 5 years ago. So therein is proof that I haven't gone back in time to meet myself. The paradox occurs when you have the proof. Avoid meeting yourself and the paradox never happens. Though I don't think it would be avoided if you, say had a totally different appearance and met your past self using a different name so that the past you wouldn't know that his future self was there. Since now, XyzB has met Bob, that memory was created. And now XyzA can make the connection, "oh, Bob was just future me!" and there's the proof that you went back in time.

![]() Basically, just because you haven't met your future self yet doesn't mean it can't ever possibly happen. Maybe you make a decision as your future self not to go back and see your younger self below a certain age because you know how your concepts and reactions were at the time when you were of such a young age. Or, maybe you already saw your future self when you were too young to even realize that it was you.

A tree understands the concept of time, which is why it has rings (if you don't know why a tree has rings you might wanna look that up before you reply). Trees have no mind. They also make noise when they fall in the woods and no-one is around ![]()

they have rings due to the changing seasons, which we happen to model the 'year' around. Even you confirm its a concept by saying this.
your blatant attempt to attack character also, well shows a lot about your character. Who would of thought a thread about time would get to your nerves?

Time exists where there is gravity. It's the theory of relativity. The greater the gravity, the slower the time.
xyz was right when he said hours, seconds etc are a human invention. Of course they are. The "concept" of time (the recognition of the gap between one moment of time and another) exists in many animals and plants. The Venus Flytrap is a good example. A fascinating plant, it has an electrical memory which works by recording movements of it's trigger hairs. The trap only closes when 2 trigger hairs have been touched within a 30 second period (this is so it doesn't get false positives and shut when it get touched by rain drops or similar). Clearly, the venus flytrap doesn't know it's a 30 second period (it doesn't count to 30!) - but it does understand the duration. You can touch a trigger hair once every 45 seconds and the trap will never shut. My dog also understands the concept of time. He understands that when I get a treat out, he needs to sit. Then, he has to wait a certain amount of time before I give it to him (I normally wait about 15 seconds). If I waited for more then 2 minutes, he'd probably walk off. So clearly, he understands the "concept" of time. Can he count? Of course not. But he still has a "concept" of time. Getting back to the original post - the "many worlds interpretation" (MWI). MWI would mean that everything which can happen will happen in at least one universe. Based on this, someone suggested an experiment to prove that the many-worlds interpretation is correct, where one points a loaded gun at one’s head, and pulls the trigger. If you were to try this test, it is highly unlikely that you would survive… but if the gun failed to go off, and continued to do so in subsequent tests, you could eventually become reasonably confident that you’re in one of the branched universes where something caused the gun to misfire each time. Of course only the "you" in those "miraculous survival" universes would know this, the others would all be dead from gunshot wounds to the head. ![]() What's more interesting is the thought that you may have already died - but luckily the version of you that you are aware of, didn't. I remember once very nearly getting arrested. I never understood how I managed to get away with it, but maybe I didn't (just this version of me did!!)
