to answer the main question.
it is that skin used to scare people, and it still does in some places. Look at all of the women in the world. Back then people were not supposed to show skin as much as they do now. It was looked as trashy, and with reason, look at the style. Now that there are edgier designers out there I think that they have seen how to decorate a womans body just the right way. There is so much of a variety weather your slim, or curvey that there is a little bit of more daring females out there who are feeling sexier in their clothes. dont know if this is what you were asking?

I guess the no skin mentality pre-dated sunscreen as well, and came from localities of more moderate climate? I wonder how they ever considered Florida inhabitable.

Also it might be because of availability; that goes along with it being acceptable.....50 years ago their were people that wore skimpy stuff but it was what they could get their hands on. Just look at older pornos (I saw a documentry on this) A lot of the bottoms women would wear were as skimpy and sexy as what was available to them. If they had a victoria's secret that manufactored thongs, g-strings, or whatever, they would be wearing it. Maybe the women's movement would have been a lot sooner in history then. I personally wear thongs 98% of the time. I find it comfortable. I don't like the "boy short" or the full booty covering underwear.
***So we focus on women here, what about guys? When did boxers come into the mix. I personally am not a fan of tighty whities but is it more comfortable to have your junk swinging around down there verse having a safe and secure "pouch" for your goodies?

Mel Gibson used the word "Freedom" in the film Braveheart. ... and that might be a clue. But perhaps Al Pacino in Scarface gave an even better clue as to how a Scot might answer this question when he said ... "All I got in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break either of 'em for nobody!" This clip may tell you all you need to know. ... and before anyone asks: Yes I do and No I don't.

i personally don't care for either boxers or tighty whities. boxers bunch up in hot weather and tighty whities are for people who are dressed by an adult carer. ![]()

not at work - jockey shots for work (smart office trousers tendo to be just a little too thin, and what with the hot weather too...)
but outside of work - nicely cut jeans shouldn't need under wear as long as you wash 'em regular. and boardies are designed for being worn au naturel!

Did you ever watch "Basic Instinct" with Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas? There's a rather infamous scene in that movie that the kilt clip references. Also think back to "Braveheart" in the scenes where the free Scots are taunting the army of Edward Longshanks.

I say it depends...for sports you want some support/control...but for more casual, I prefer a few degrees of freedom...nothing like a gust of wind on those cold morning jogs to get you going! And if you happen to be a commando exhibitionist, conversations can become entertaining...People try not to look, but they do anyway, trying to be casual about it too.... Why is it that jeans these days ride down, whilst boxers ride up?
