The Tax Man .... oh how I love the tax man.
![]() A few months ago I had a nasty surprise and had to fill in some forms, that indicated my tax contributions may have been wrong for a couple of years. ![]() And then this morning ... I got a letter from the darling tax man, with a lovely lovely cheque inside saying " Sorry Mrs H, we cocked up, you paid too much and now you can have some back!!!" ![]() Wicked!!! ![]() |

[this hasn't just happened; it's just that I've just remembered to post this. So pretend that it's the past Saturday]
[20 minutes later... Whoa, tink's 420 mix is deep. Never noticed it before (maybe because I was seeking out a trippy quality rather than this] [10 more minutes later...] Just got back from Mexico! Was on an Orchestra tour in Puebla, Mexico. 'Twas fun! We had stayed in a hotel in San Martin and had played there, in Cholula, and in Puebla. A decently long trip on the bus to Monterry and from there was my first flight. Wasn't as bad as people (or the media, I suppose) makes it seem. Got to our hotel later that evening. There were several conventions going on around San Martin, so Hotel Imperial (in spanish the noun comes before its adjective), the place we were staying at, was booked for the most part and only the teachers and ladies could stay there. All the guys had to go around the corner & across the street to a different hotel. That hotel wasn't particularly good. Small, 1 bed, no phone, no alarm clock, NO SHOWER CURTAIN ...wtf?... But at least they had TP. San Martin was much like Matamoros (just across the border here) but quite a bit less insane. We played at some church/school in Cholula on Wed.. We had rehearsed a lot that day (~5 hours) with a conductor and with vocalists and with some music that we've never seen before. [Grrr @ surprise fermata's]. The school cafeteria was trying to make us gain weight! We got a decently sized plate o' spaghetti. And I thought, "this is pretty decent for cafeteria food." And then about 5 min. later, they served another dish! It was [can't remember the name, but I keep thinking it sounds like mayonesa] with some kind of spicy sauce and beans. The beans looked like that plate in Nacho Libre that he serves to the kids, haha, the bassoonist took a pic of it [I wonder if I can somehow get it from her]. After lunch, we had a bit o' free time an a bunch of us (2 trumpets, both oboes, a trombonist, both bassoons, and the percussionist) went up a small mount to the top where was this nice lil' church. Heh, we're retarded, well... at least the lead oboe, percussion and I are. We ran up the friggin' thing in the hot sun right after we had just eaten... ...and I won! (well, the percussionist would beg to differ. But I was at the last step of the stairs and jokingly gave up saying "it's too far away!!!" Any, some nice pics have I of Cholula and that church. Ugh, the performance that night was tough. We still weren't exactly comfortable with the pieces but we still had to play. We played outside and it was windy. So page turning was hell. Had to use teamwork and fiddle around [haha, literally, since I'm in the violin section] with the clothespins on the stand to get our music to the right pages. We somehow managed to survive the concert. It was awesome 'cause at the very last piece, on the very last note, we were accompanied by a pretty nice explosion. It was a complete surprise to everyone. You should've seen the look of our conductor's face (we had 2, our normal one and the Mexican guy, I'm talking about the former). Something along the lines of : o And then we had an encore in which we sight read some piece that was hiding under our chairs. Haha, that conductor sucked. Because the wind section (I can say the trumpets for sure) had 64 measures of rest and he never cued them in! Anyway, we survived that night and went back to San Martin. I wondered around for a bit around the city and met up with the mexican violins (well, that's what I think of them as, since they're all from mexico: the first chairs 1st violins, the 3rd chair 2nd, and one of the violas) and had some tacos from one of those taco stands. Man... they are very different from the ones along the Texas border. They look very unclean and disgusting... But they taste friggin' awesome ![]() I then waited around the hotel for about 3/2 hours (mixed numbers like 1 1/2 just don't go well with harder math classes) doing absolutely nothing because my roommate was out drinking and lost track o' time. We were supposed to meet up at midnight in case one of us was already done for the night. [will post more later]
