about dianetics

anyone here up for some discusstion on dianetics?

just started to dig on that now.

they are now building churches all over the country. Was thinking of joining them. but they are luring me to enrolling in some courses and that makes me feel bad. I mean, they charge fees and I am broke, in a way.

it's an interesting book. read it right before taking a psychology of personality class, seemed to me like much of it was based off freudian psych & his ideas on how the brain/memory worked. i thought it was a worthwhile read, it made me think.

it's a fun topic but it draws so many people who havn't taken the time to read the book, and at least for me, i could care less about what other poeple are told to think(thinking for oneself on the other hand...). book reviews & opinions from people who havent read the book are completely worthless.

But why read a book about psychology by some quack science fiction author turned messiah when you could read genuine book son psychology by leading psychological thinkers? Or even those pop-psychology books you'll find in self-help sections in bookshops.

Basically I found it to be a very simplistic psychological doctrine sounding more like a book entitled "Dianetics: the best way to a healthier, happier you" than a serious psychological manual. I found the explanations of certain points to be quite lacking - for example where he claimed that people are attracted to drugs because they "Make you feel more healthy."

I do think seriously about " i feel healthy when i take drugs "....

at least some people feel as I do. you can turn to bible when you are upset, bible is a self-help handie... and bible is serious.

open mind is the first place where you can have more insight of some quack thing, it also might be some quack are inventing new theory to bring people on ark. when i watch Matrixxx I saw sparks of what people are interpreting the story and it inspired me so much.

Science per se is a paronoia phenominon...

Yup, that's pretty much how it is marketed. Seemed to me like it was intended to give it's readers a bit of background & theory, a couple of tools & get them more interested in learning more about it instead of a heavy hitting academic textbook.

Well if that's how people considered it I would be happy. Unfortunately, some people seem to take it effectively as the word of God.

What drugs, it's been over 10 yrs since I read the book but I think it was referencing primarily pharmacuticals(but they are antidrug in general) as we are in a culture that believes that drugs are the source of health. Got high cholesterol, pain, feel blue, feel sick, to thin, to fat, can't sleep, can't stay awake etc... there is a drug for that.

Yea, what can ya do. People should question lots of stuff but don't. When is the last time most people questioned their doctor? Thats what scares me.

So grow some sense and question your doctor before automatically taking the often over-prescribed or even mis-prescribed medications in common use today.

no need to join a cult - if you're so desparate for spirituality, a need to belong to a group, or simply answers to the question "why?" than do some research and form your own ideas.

why do you need to pay for someone else to tell you?

Here Here - I had a bad experience with The Church of Scientology please be very very careful - they are not the kind of people you want to be playing games with!!!

They are a cult in every sense of the word, manipulative, brain washing, over bearing, and so on! Take it from me do what Phin says try and form you own opinions re spirituality you might even enjoy your individual journey.

And that is what it really comes down to. lethargy is a plague on our society. short attention span sound bite snippits from the media is about all people can handle these days. it's sad.

OT:
I don't have any 1st hand knowledge about the practice of Scientology, never been to one of their churches or anything, do we have any Scientologists here that can answer questions on it? I always hear people talking about it and it's financial practices, is it like with the Christian church where they take 10% before taxes or something like tithing?
