Chivalry died with the invention of the musket.

Or not.

I would agree. The whole "equality" movement pretty much took a dump on chivalry and choked it to death. I guy is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. If he opens a door that's seen as being a sexist pig. If he doesn't he's a jerk. We just can't win.

Default Chivalry died....

...because he was an ass and spent his time chasing after women who didn't appreciate him.

I'd agree with this. Everyone is so uptight these days that often times being chivalrous completely backfires. But at least the effort was made...

chiv·al·rous
1 : VALIANT
2 : of, relating to, or characteristic of chivalry and knight-errantry
3 a : marked by honor, generosity, and courtesy b : marked by gracious courtesy and high-minded consideration especially to women

1 & 2 = dead, but I don't think women killed it.
3 is still around among the socially educated ^_^
It's a reflection of civility and consideration -- it shouldn't be forced, or done in spite, or in exaggerated and mocking forms.

I'll be damned what some feminazi says about it. I open doors for people, because its courteous (and because work has me trained like a chimp). I'm polite to women, and try not to scratch my sack too frequently in front of them, but thats just manners.

Of course I don't obey all the rules, I don't allways walk between the girl I'm with, and the road, nor do I go first down the stairs on purpous. I do, however, allways go after a lady when going up a ladder, but thats just because I'm depraved.

I'd like it if the rest of the world was a bit more consciderate, and if my holding the door open for someone isn't appreciated, then forget them. Karma trumps all.

Unfortunatly the genie is out of her bottle now and she's not going to climb back in there any time soon.Chiverly is a non issue anymore. I opened a door recently for a woman and was told in no uncertain terms that she could manage it quite well by her self and resented my help. We lost the remote wars and we lost the sex war long ago. With the sperm banks overflowing with sticky deposits and the availblility of vibrators almost everywhere, I'm afraid guys the writing on the wall for the male species Looks like our number up. See u in the trenches guys

I'd also like to mention something about the sissification of the contemporary male. Its kind of scary, and it almost makes me not care so much that we'll be extinct.

There aren't any more Achillies', or Davey Crockets, or Lewis & Clark... Its just a bunch of jokers who color coordinate. For shame.

Hyland, what a crazy confusing world

I think over the last decade or so, womens expectations have gone through the roof, I feel they dont know what they want anymore. We males have certainly been demoted to the bottom of the food chain. and we seem to get the blame for everything that goes wrong in society today ( just my take on things I could be wrong but justtake a good look around you)

I don't think chivalry is dead. It's just very very rare... It may not exist in that over-the-top, drop to one knee, and kiss a woman's hand way, but it's there.

Chivalry didn't die. In a bitter sort of irony, it's been co-opted by the most sexist and misogynistic men around, in much the same way the gay community absorbed the most masculine names like Butch and Lance, and the african-american community reclaimed the word "******" to mean something of repute and respect now (but only to each other).

Thus, a generation of chivalric Smoove B's is born, aka The Player, the Pimp, who worships the ground women walk on, buys them expensive things, invites them to fine restaurants, and showers them with gifts, praise, flowers, and the delicate things in life, all in the name of sexual conquest.

I don't think its just women who don't know what they want, men don't either. I'd be willing to put money on a redefinition of male-female relationships within our lifetimes.

And if not, i'll buy everyone a coke.

Hyland, if you can find me
