I have big plans for this; this demo is only a very early rough version. Ultimately I want it to be really symphonic with many instruments and a kickin' beat.
This barely classifies as EDM yet there is a section with a breakbeat if you wait for it! It was so different I thought it needed a new thread. http://media.putfile.com/Celtechnico |

I cant help but like that melody, it's very happy and instantly catchy. Thats pretty cool to come up with something like that. I'm not sure if the breaks and bass work for me though, just my opinion.
Lets see what other peeps think. Having said that though its got more than the bones of a bangin' tune. Have you got any tabla samples to use as a rhythm? A couple of friends of mine were having a jam once, playing Irish folk. One on acoustic guitar and the other on tabla. The mixture of eastern and western sounded pretty cool.

That seems fair comment to me, I'm not sure if I like the breaks either, I was just in a hurry to get some idea what any electronic version would sound like and using breaks was the first thing that came into mind. The final version will be nearly entirely different, just with the same melody, but I can see it taking a long while; maybe expect a thread bump in half a year tbh.

well it sounds a little like a hornpipe or a jig - both associated with pirates in popular culture. it's such a happy melody that a few comedy "yarrrgh me hearties" or similar shouts would fit right in!

I don't think this should be EDM at all. I'm thinkin' more of a film score. Add some tribal drums and some viola interpretations of that melody you've got a tune.
If anything EDM, use some chillout percussions instead ![]()

I like it, it's a good start. I know it's a work in progress, but my opinion is that perhaps use a different type of sound for the main melody, maybe something with a more "raw" sound if that makes sense. Also, I agree the break and bass don't seem to fit at their current state. To me the melodies sound like they want to accent the 2nd beat but when the break comes in it forces it to accent the first, so it kind of conflicts. Well, that's what I hear anyway. Keep at it, I do have a feeling this will turn into something pretty awesome!

Taking on board a few things this is V2 with a different main melody insrument, and most of the breaks gone.
http://media.putfile.com/Celtechnico2 I'm working in pretty short bursts at the moment but when I'm ready I want to spend a lot of time on buildups... I was thinking of starting the whole tune off slowed right down and increasing the tempo to where it is now, but I haven't figured out how yet. I rarely change the speed of a song at any stage so I need to find out how you do that with my program too! Also an idea for the (maybe distant...?) future would be to change the melody for a section with an improvisation on the current melody which would still resemble it. Well I don't think I've ever put up any chillout before.
This is a terribly-mastered-because-I-was-in-a-hurry melody I've written. It's not Celtic and the beat hasn't even come in yet. http://media.putfile.com/Musica-59-40 I realise the streams haven't been working 100% smoothly... I normally find the smaller the tune the more likely it will play the whole way through smoothly with these streams. I am in the process of registering a dot com from which you will be able to download literally all of my amateur electronic music. |
