Default iPod mini questions

What do you think of it? Is 40$ good for a used [good condition] 4GB?

well, you cant go wrong for 40 bucks. I still have mine from about 4 years ago and it works great, it never has frozen and still has decent battery life.

The Mini has a monocoque metal case and is possibly the best built ipod. But its quite an old model, so chances are the battery will be past it. Once you've budgeted another 40$ for battery replacement you're up to the asking price of some new 4GB players. And you will have to incur that cost soon enough...

mini's have battery problem. a used mini, even in good condition wont last long. 2nd generaton nanos and current (4th generation) nanos have a metal cage just like the mini, they are smaller and the battery can last for a very long time. I've had my 2nd generation nano for 2 years, works and looks (minus the scratches) just like new, even though I abuse it every day.

hmmm...I've never seemed to have a battery problem. My mini lasts for about 5-6 hours...and I've never really waited for the mini to die before i recharge it again (supposedly it gives the battery a longer life). I personally find the new nanos too thin, almost to the point where I feel that I might break it if I put it in my bag. The mini feels solid, I've dropped mine about 100times, and it still looks like it did the day it came out of the box (again, minus a few scratches).

This mini is to supliment my ipod shuffle as my 60GBs headphone jack is broken. When I replace the battery eventually, I'll stick a 32GB CF card in it.

That word has been well and truly tarnished.
