I need input from all the DJ's on this one...So this is my quandary:
I'm having all my vinyl shipped down from up north and am going to start spinning again. Just for my parties, etc. I'm not going to stage at Ultra this year or anything. .I've made some friends here that hold residency at different clubs. They are all trying to push me to mp3. I'm not one to get run over by technology, but I don't know if I like this. I'm a table-ist, there's a certain amount of show and excitement working with the platters and thumbing through 12's in a flight case. I'd like to know which my fellow mixologists use. What you use if it is digital and feelings for or against. I'll always keep a pair or three Technics around, but should I integrate digital? And do I need to pay attention to a certain mixer in doing so. Thanks for letting me rant. I look forward to everyone's thoughts on my stubbornness, or am i just old-skool? -kee |

Serato with Ableton Live, is a great way to integrate records with digital. I use all mediums to mix with these days. I used to be a hardcore vinyl DJ but things change.

Use vinyl over wave, use wave over mp3. If you are going to go that direction.

never play anything compressed using a lossy codec. I don't know why people think its okay to do this. You CAN really tell the difference in a club and it is just sounds worse if hear a mix sourced from mp3 files and then re-compressed in mp3 or AAC.
That's why I stick to vinyl.

No you can't!!! The acoustics in a club is so vast that by the time the sound leaves the speakers, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference whether someone was spinning records, CDs or even cassette tapes for that matter. Secondly, the volume is so loud that certain frequencies are drowned out.

Vinyls all the way for me. Though, I will buy CDs, too. I won't download music, though. Doesn't make any, sense to me, at all. If I buy something. I wanna touch it. If I can touch it and take care of it, I have more appreciation for it. Thus, it has value to me. Thus, music has more value to me. I will never support down load sites because of this. I personally think that people (as a whole), who download music, don't appreciate music as much as those who buy vinyls or CDs. Just a small sample of the many threads started by people who are noticing that music is more disposable, these days.
