Hey, so I just found out today that my school is going to be hosting a trance-themed school dance. The senior class student council is pretty much organizing it, but they really don't know much about trance, so I asked if I could help out. I told the head of the group that I'd send him a tracklist with a few recommended songs, but I only came up with about 9 so far. What I'm looking for are some pumping, energetic trance songs along with some buildup and cooldown tracks for the beginning and end of the dance. Keep in mind too, most of these people are kinda new to EDM in general, and basically all they want to do is dance their asses off.
Here's what I came up with:1. Bart Claessen & Dave Schiemann - Madness (I Prefer This Mix) 2. Lemon & Einar K - Anticipation (Original Mix) 3. Store N' Forward - Honeymoon (Mike Shiver's Catching Sun Remix) 4. Signalrunners - Electric Sheep (Nitrous Oxide Remix) 5. Above & Beyond - Oceanic (Original Mix) 6. C-Systems - Close My Eyes (Lemon & Einar K Remix) 7. Mono - Rise! 8. Joonas Hahmo - Cocktail Bar 9. Tritonal - Sentient Blue Any more suggestions?

hhmmmmmmmm that should be intresting . well rember if theyre gonna dj the event propely then u have to be careful of bpm. its not all that great to mix a 130 bpm song with a 140 or 1 38. butwhatever.
Ferry corsten -right of way. -very energetic nitrous oxide-red moon slide nish -Sagittarius (alphazone remix) in the 150 range this is weird that they just pulled trance out of nowhere. where did they even hear of it? or were going for a more of just random dance tunes like benny benassi -satisfaction and sandstrom kinda deal? im with drigh i would probably rather spin house music at a school dance than trance. it just seems like the crowd would better relate to it and get into it more than trance. but hey what do i know

Well it was more of a sandstorm type deal where they got inspiration, so I figured they would be more into some trance. Now, one of the big issues that I have not yet heard a conclusion on is whether or not they are going to get an actual DJ who will construct a mix. If so, then I figured he would be a lot more skilled than I am at knowing whats what, and what songs to play. I was just asked for some suggestions since people seem to see me as having more experience with the genres than anyone else there. House does sound like a good suggestion also. I will keep that in mind when they ask for some suggestions.

Are you SEROUS!!! I wish I went to your school. The kids at my high school would probably boo the DJ for doing a trance themed school dance. People my age around here are so addicted to top 40 it's crazy.

hit them with the known stuff first, Sandstorm
. then move on fordward, dont pump them up quite yet, let them explore the trance scene for a couple of minutes. give them maybe progressive trance, then move on to the uplifting trance. and at the end some maybe baleric trance, it will still be pumping but nice melodies to chill them out and make them remember the sernior year. thats what i would of done. give them some Miller! in the middle, that will pump them up ![]()

I feel sorry for the poor sap who is gonna end up playing that - weather it be you or someone else. You are gonna get a TON of kids telling you it sucks and will have nothing but hiphop/top40 requests all night long. The thought of what you are about to get into makes me shiver.. aaah best of luck man heh

I am not DJ'ing the party, I believe they are hiring a DJ. And i don't think it will be a total disaster, I know a lot of people at my school are into a lot more than top 40 shit, most of them went crazy when any EDM was played at our homecoming. This has been on the drawing board for quite awhile, too, and a lot of people have supported the idea of a "club night" type dance.
I will be sure to relay on some different genres also, but not too many. Maybe just mix it up with some House, and a little breaks. All in all, I think it should turn out nice if the school makes the proper effort.

i think what trev is saying is that there are btter edm genres for this type of situation. i think i would rather introduce the genre of edm at a dance by playing house (prog, electro, tech, funky ec) or even introduce them to REAL techno rather than just all trance. house just has more of a dancing rhythm. now trance can be good if your playing high energy tracks but the more melodic stuff just wouldnt be that good for a dance mainly because of the super long breaks int he trance toons nowadays. but i hope it works out in the end

wow thats awesome i wish i had gone to that school!
is the school a high school? if thats the case id definitely try to stick with basic stuff that most people are familiar with and of course throw your own good ones in between. im thinking along the lines of: DJ Sammy - heaven Alice Deejay - better off alone Darude - sandstorm benny benassi - satisfaction (no one will know its not trance) ...and pretty much any cheesy hard trance anthem song ever made but itd be a tease to play a party having to stick to music like that, id be so tempted to start playin BOMB ass trance that theyve never heard before Last edited by mxma1 : Feb 4th, 2009 at 05:40 PM. |
