Hi guys. I am a new the DJ on the scene, DJ PLEX. I have a pair of numark axis 9 and a behringer behringer djx 700 mixer. I have done a few weddings which were easy and now looking to progress further in my dj career, I am looking to start mixing different styles of music. I am taking lessons but would like to get a good selection of house music together as that is what my teacher is teaching me at the moment.
Where would you recommend me downloading or buying house music from? What is the best selling house music out there at the moment? What house music would you recommend starting off with? If you could help me out that would be awesome. Thanks |

As far as purchasing, did you check out the sticky "Online Record Stores"? Lots of suggestions where to shop. Most places will likely show you the most purchased tracks/albums, if you want to get what everyone else is getting.
Might be a good place to start, but in the end you don't want to do the same thing everyone else is... hunt around for awesome tracks that people may never have heard of before.

My suggestion..
look what labels ur fav artists r on and check the rest of the label on beatport / juno. Personally, I get tons of free music from Blogs. Many new artists (some of which are cutting edge) send high quality tracks to blogs. If u find a blog that posts the stuff u feel, well hey thats just as good as going through a label only u save some money. The only catch though is that there are many tracks that only exist on paying distribution outlets, so u can't get it all from the blogs, but they might introduce u to new artists that ppl dont know about yet. Diversify as much as possible.. the chances of another dj having the same tracks as u will be very rare if u get ur tracks from varied sources. Ya u could go to say philthkids dot blogspot dot com , check out their links and click around from blog to blog until u find one u like. Hope this helps. Teddy Shuckles |

House... have you any idea how vast that genre is?
It's too big to even try and pin point your style. For me i love every kind of house, except for the "Pop" top 40 house and some cheesy electro house. Go to a record shop and spend hours listenning to tracks. Write down the label and artist. That's what i did and i've found my love for ALL kind of music. Don't restrict your self to only house, there's plenty more genres that needs to be unveiled to the public.

as far as what type of house to play, you may want to look into some commercial house and dance type stuff at first. it may be difficult to getting that first gig playing too underground (unless you live in a large city).
a lot of blogs have really great promos, sometimes from the labels themselves... electrostation.net is a good example... follow through the links to find other blogs and you'll never run out of tunes also you don't necessarily have to buy music if you get a gig or radio show and qualify for a record pool.. I use this one at zipdj.com |

Personally, I suggest you listen to more DJ mixes with tracklists, maybe on DI or something, highlight the songs you really love in a set, then go out and try to find the songs in various places. You get a much better library that way; filled with songs you know you love. At least, this is what I do.

First of all I recommend to view the tracklist of your favourite artists. When you have the names of the artists you can sort by label, and then download the music.
Another way is to search in beatport.com , juno.uk the genre that you are looking for. Maybe you will find a lot of productions to listen, however , this is a good way to sart making your own list of producers, labels. |

To the OP: I would check out beatport.com for your digital downloads, they usually have a lot of tunes, and you can preview them (which is usually available on all sites). If you can't find what you are looking for check some of the other sites posted on this thread, as they are all pretty good choices.
And yeah, if you are wondering what artists and genre's to look into, I would start listening to the House stations on DI, as there are plenty of tracks flyin around from the different subgenres of House. Just remember, if you are going to get your tracks, pay for them!
