Default How to describe Full-on psytrance.

How can you explain full-on psytrance. I know what it sounds like but just can't explain it.

its psytrance when you want to get up and dance even though both of your legs are broken. Its so incredibly fast and psychotic, usually 145 to 150BPM, psytars goin, plenty of crunchy squishy noises, and a bass line that will kick your ass

I think its like trance without the cheesy melody. All the effects and deepness without the emotion

Yes. Full on psytrance never has a cheesy trance melody. If it DOES have a trance melody, its 99.9% of the time serious. Like SERIOUS. The song sounds like it's an explosion of hard sounds at a rapid pace. It's exactly what it's called: "Full On". It's a ride with 100 jet thrusters. Hyper to the max and even scary at times

Psytrance is Psytrance. There's really no other name for it.

Goa doesn't have the hard kick drums and the hard driving bass lines. It's similar, but the sounds are different. It's a little more organic and not as hard. I always think the kicks are too weak.

Goa is more melodic where as Psy is more rhythmic. Psy has zappy high frequency kicks and Goa has higher mid range hollow kicks. Both of them have trippy warping sounds but Goa's follow the melody of the bass where as Psy's are random with the hard driven rhythm. I hope that makes sense to you.

I think the key for me is goa's hollow kicks as DG put it. That's how I've been trying to explain it for years and the best I came up with is "weak". lol I think psy is just fuller [more full?] and richer in general. It's unfortunate for me because I really like the direction a lot of goa tracks take, but I just can't listen to it because of this hollowness and lacking of punch. Infected Mushroom bridged the gap for me. They took the best of both worlds and put it together.

The most intense rush I've experienced from Goa is listening to Hallucinogen - LSD.

It's full of scrunches, blaps and mercurial jet effects.

My brief improvised list of full-on goa/psy associated words...

= electronic, computery, smooth, bassline, original, progressive, effects

goa to me is layer upon layer of acid lines and synths that stretch your consciousness across the vastness of space, all the while returning your soul to the comforting bosom of mother earth

and the basslines are much more basic and ritualistic than psy which seems to use more builds/gimmicks. i just want a nice boom boom boom boo-boo-boom!

I've never liked Infected Mushroom - on the other hand, I like the weak kicks found in tracks from groups like Man with no name and Astral Projection...now I can listen to it any time without getting a headache, its not just club music.
And I prefer melody over random synths...although here and there I find some nice psy tracks, I truly love the sound of 90s goa. This hollowness + spaceyness is what is good about the genre for me; it enhances the entrancing.

it sounds like bubbling molten chrome, now pouring, now bubbling...

some of it sounds like the minds of those guys in Flash Gordon where they're all hunched over computers and connected...

it's a genre I have listened to a fair bit on here - at first it was all too much for me to take in at once, seemed too hectic and stuff, but since then I can appreciate every sonic nanoparticle(!) of a decent psy track.

sometimes uses guitar, generally short, solid riffs

Psy trance is a commercial version of goa trance, in the commercialisation of goa it met with hard trance and hard dance styles. Goa is much more layered synthy sounds, where as psy is much more predictable euphoria, kinda less psychedelic if you know what I mean! Goa has kinda a deeper, meaningful sense and psy is much more tribal......
